We will discuss what can be done or should be done to protect these priceless prehistoric items that are being removed and sold at shows in the U.S. and elsewhere. Sept 27,2003 Alaska Archaeology What have you read about Alaskan Archaeology? Let's hear about other sites and discoveries. October 25, 2003 Alaskan Lithics Floyd Rogers will lead a discussion of Alaskan Lithics. We will compare and contrast Alaskan lithic artifacts with other tools found in North American sites. November 22, 2003 The Walakpi Site - Alaska The Walakpi archaeological site is located near Point Barrow, Alaska. It contains evidence of human habitation from the Birnick and Thule cultures. This month Betsy Rogers is going to lead us through an examination of the artifacts found there and a discussion of the significance of those artifacts to the Eskimo way of life. ARCHAEOLOGY STUDY GROUP FIELD TRIP January 22, 2005 ARCHAEOLOGY STUDY GROUP FEBRUARY 26, 2005 ARCHAEOLOGY STUDY GROUP Paleontology and Archaeology of the La Brea Tar Pits Sheila Bergmann will be leading a discussion on the La Brea Tar Pits using a DVD videotape showing the fossils and archaeological significance of this famous site near Los Angeles, California. Haida Gwaii, First Nation of the Queen Charlotte, British Columbia by Joanne Bischoff Covers their basic life style and what happened after the Europeans came. Skirmishes, liquor and small pox killed 88% of the people. These people built 84 feet cedar boats out of one piece of wood. April 22, 2006 ARCHAEOLOGY STUDY GROUP College of DuPage, K Building, Rm 161 7:30 P.M. Prehistory of the Yellowstone Area David and Sheila Bergmann will give a presentation of the prehistory of the Yellowstone area, including the early Indian inhabitants including the Shoshone tribes.
