PEOPLE NEWS 1. Don Auler (1918-2002). Don Auler, Honorary ESCONI member (1967-2002), past President and a special friend to all Rockhounds, died Saturday morning, November 23, 2002 after a short illness. 2. Floyd and Betsy Roger's Daughter, Elizabeth Rogers Layon, died Tuesday February 28, 2002 following a sudden pulmonary embolism. She was 35. Donations may be made to the Ocean Impact Foundation Wildlife Care Center, 7100 Belvidere Road, West Palm Beach, FL 33411. 3. Floyd and Betsy Roger's Daughter, Becky Rogers Ackermann, Ph.d, is now at the Department of Archaeology, University of Cape Town in South Africa. Becky is a former E.S.C.O.N.I. junior member. She has just written a great on-line article, "Earliest Human Ancestors: New Finds, New Interpretations." 4. Dave Carlson, an ESCONI member, recently coauthored an article in the Journal of Paleontology, Vol. 74, No. 3, May 2000 with Colin D. Sumrall from the Cincinnati Museum Center. The article on Pages 487-491 is titled, "Suture modification by pectinirhomb growth in Lepadocystis decorus, a new species of callocystitid glyptocystitid rhombiferan (Echinodermata) from Illinois". 5. Matthew Galloway, a ten (10) year old LaMoille boy, found a leg bone from an amphibian on an E.S.C.O.N.I. field trip to a LaSalle County quarry on June 4, 2000. 6. On Saturday, March 10, 2001 E.S.C.O.N.I member Andrew Hay gave a talk at the Lizzadro Museum on Mazon Creek.

9. ESCONI Club member Donald Baumgartner, an avid fossil enthusiast, conducted yet another fossil program in the Chicagoland area this past October, this time at the Tate Woods School in Lisle, Illinois. See link below for more details.
