FIELD TRIPS - JUNE 2002
The main summer field trip for ESCONI will be June 10-21 in Nebraska and South Dakota where we will be collecting fossils, minerals and agates. See below for details. Field Trip #8 June 9, 2002 Illinois Cement Quarry, LaSalle, Illinois Sunday 8:00 A.M. Meet at the Quarry. Hard Hats required. Age Limit is 12 and above. Take Interstate I-80 to Interstate I-39; Take a left and go south to Illinois Route 6. Take a right on IL-6. About 600 ft you will take a right onto Troy Grove. You will take a left onto Oakwood cemetery road. Stop and wait at the gate. Bruce Galloway will have copies of the liability form for each ESCONI member to sign. Field Trip #9 June 10 - 21, 2002 Summer Field Trip to Nebraska / South Dakota The highlights of Week #1 will be collecting in fee sites in Nebraska for Oligocene fossils and digging for dinosaurs in Northwestern South Dakota with Paleo Prospectors. The highlights of Week #2 will be collecting in fee sites in Nebraska for Oligocene fossils, visiting museums, collecting fossils and agates in the Black Hills, and digging for dinosaurs in Northwestern South Dakota with Paleo Prospectors.
For those planning to dig for dinosaurs with Paleo Prospectors, ESCONI must make reservations with PaleoProspectors by April. Lodging reservations should also be made as soon as possible. Lodging and travel information are being researched and will be added to the web site as soon as possible. Exact details of the trips will also be made available when these arrangements have been finalized. Week #1: June 10-14

Meet at 8:00 a.m. Monday June 10 at the High Plains Homestead (See Below for Location Info) in Crawford, Nebraska. We will be collecting at three (3) fee areas; two for $30 a day per person and one for $40 a day. We will be collecting vertebrate fossils from the Oligocene. There are nearby locations for agates. We will be visiting museums on Wednesday including the Black Hills Institute Of Geological Research. Exact details to be announced. Collecting will be in the Black Hills area Thursday. For Friday, June 14 we have scheduled a dinosaur dig at a fee area near Buffalo, South Dakota with Paleo Prospectors. The rates for PaleoProspectors will be $100 a day with limited collecting, $180 a day with normal collecting and $250 a day includes lodging.
Weekend : June 15-16
If enough people show interest, we will be collecting in Nebraska at three fee areas as described above.
Week #2: June 17-21
