Advanced Form to Report of Mazon Creek Nodules collected from Illinois Department of Natural Resources Property

                        DRAFT STATUS

In order to make sure that information on fossil-bearing nodules collected from IDNR properties is not lost, the Department requires that a list of fossils collected under IDNR permits be reported to the Illinois State Museum (ISM). This form provides an easy way to provide that information to the ISM.

This form is designed for advanced collectors who collect at the site numerous times during a season and who would like to group annual collecting results into a single annual report. This form is designed to allow collectors to report collecting of new nodules separately from opening of nodules and fossil identification. We have made these separate categories for reporting to accommodate collectors who open nodules over several seasons using natural freeze-thaw techniques.

This report form does not require keeping nodules from individual trips separate or to separate nodules from different years or areas. However, if a collector would like to report this added detail, we would be happy to archive that information as well.

If, you would like to provide additional information, including photographs of more noteworthy, important, or spectacular specimens, IDNR would certainly appreciate that consideration.

You may instead report finds online using forms on the ISM website http://www.museum.state.il.us/exhibits/mazon_creek/collecting_report.html  [not available yet]

The information on this form is being archived to better understand the Mazon Creek deposits and their fossils. It may also allow potentially important fossil finds to be made known to the scientists that study those fossils.

If you have any questions or concerns about providing this information, please feel free to contact Dr. Rickard Toomey of the Geology Section at the Illinois State Museum. Information for contacting him
