Illinois Department of Natural Resources Collecting policy and procedures for Mazon Creek nodules at Mazonia-Braidwood Fish and Wildlife Area
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is planning changes to the Mazon Creek nodule collection policies and procedures for the areas it administers, in particular the Mazonia-Braidwood Fish and wildlife Area (including the Braidwood Cooling Lake). These changes are anticipated to take effect for the 2001-collecting season. The following is a draft summary of the new policy and procedures (including some comment on what things will not change and what changes are being discussed). This is only a draft. We would to get constructive comments on the changes (or suggestions of other changes that need to be made). Comments can be made either to Rick Toomey (Illinois State Museum) or Mark Meents (Mazonia-Braidwood Site Supervisor). Contact information for each is as follows:
Please Note: For these changes to be put into effect by March 2001, they will need to be finalized in early December 2000. For that reason, comments should be made before mid-November.
