You can now sign up for free e-mail announcements from ESCONI. Anyone can subscribe in order to receive regular emails about events from ESCONI - member and non-members.  

As you can tell, the e-mail event announcements will let you know about the club's upcoming events.

If you are a member, be assured - we are still writing and sending by mail the ESCONI newsletter for members, which contains all the great articles including the President's Message, Karen's Komments and articles from members. The mailed ESCONI newsletter is one of the great benefits of being a member!

 

ESCONI Trying Out Meetup

Meetup is a way for people to search for clubs by interest or location. ESCONI is going to try out this software as a way to make it easier for people to find our club - so we now have an ESCONI Meetup Group page.

For current members who like the internet, it can provide a fun way to talk to other people and see the upcoming meetings. But it is not necessary for club members to join the ESCONI Meetup group - just something to do if you want to use Meetup.

The bonus may be for attracting new members - many people use Meetup to find clubs in their area of interest. So we will see if this is true for our club - don't know! With technology, sometimes you just don't know, till you know.  As usual, feel free to share your thoughts in the comment area below or by sending an email or adding your thoughts in the ESCONI Yahoo Group, ESCONI Twitter or ESCONI Facebook page. 

Field Trip & ESCONI Yahoo Group

Dave Carlson runs an on-line, e-mail discussion group for ESCONI members. (Another benefit of being a member!)

He just posted about a field trip to Larson/Vulcan Quarry:

The trip to Larson/Vulcan Quarry on Sept 19 from 9 to 11:30 AM is confirmed! I have permission to bring in 20 ESCONI members. Also along at the same time will be Reed Scherer's Invertebrate Paleontology class from NIU. We will meet at the office on Barber Greene Road (east of Sycamore) at 9 AM. Age limit is 18. Wear clothes appropriate for being in a quarry (no sandals, etc), and bring a hard hat if you have one. Carpooling is strongly encouraged to limit the number of vehicles in the quarry. At the quarry, expect a short presentation about the work there followed by safety training before collecting. I will distribute a form (document file) to those signing up that must be filled out and brought along. Anyone interested in going should contact me to be added to the list.

Membership is open to all people interested in the earth sciences.

Annual family dues are $20. $50 for three years.  This covers all members of the family.  To become a member, complete this Membership
