Government inspectors found natural gas leaks at nearly a dozen Quebec shale-gas wells in November and December that could potentially have caused water contamination or explosions, says a new document filed with the public consultation into shale-gas development...The migrated gas posed two risks: contamination of nearby aquifers, or the possibility of explosions. An explosion could only occur if the gas collected in a closed area, if there were methane concentrations of five to 15 per cent, and if there was a source of ignition, such as a spark, the document says....
And a Maryland town considers a ban on natural gas drilling.
