Michele Micetich sent this invitation a few days ago:
Hello,
I am the president of our historical society here in Carbon Hill, IL, just outside Coal City. We often have fossil collectors visit our little museum, the Carbon Hill School Museum, where we have much information on coal, fossils, immigrants, and the geology and geography of our coal field area in Will and Grundy counties. We hold several events throughout the year. A few ESCONI members have visited us for the fossil events. We keep Jack Wittry's books as well as the older books by Richardson and Langford on hand for visitors' use as well as maps, photos, specimens, etc.
One of our neighbors and a member is Tom Testa, a fossil collector of some note. Last year Tom published a high resolution photo book of specimens from his extensive fauna collection. He had been quite protective of his collection and decided that as he is not a scholar, what he could best offer was these amazing actual size photographs of specimens not found by most amateur collectors. Recently Tom published a high resolution book of some of his flora collection. It is just as impressive. We now have those copies of that for sale here at the museum and on ebay.
We will be hosting an open house on the last Sunday of this month, April 27, from noon til 5 pm. and feature fossils of the area. We will show a video of an interview from some years ago of a miner talking about working underground finding fossil "nests", as he called them. Tom will be on hand with his book and bring some specimens on display.
Hope you and the ESCONI group might be interested in all this.
