There is a large amount of diversity in the Mazon Creek fossil fauna. But, most of it consists of smaller animals. Larger animals are missing as most concretions are fairly small and the deposit is thought to have been formed by a relatively slow flooding event. Maybe, the larger animals had time to get away as we do know that large animals were present, by the shark teeth and fish scales that are found. Today, we have a few lung fish scales. Two specimens from two different ESCONI members. Thanks for the contributions!
This scale was contributed by ESCONI President Keith Robitschek. It was found in Pit 2.
