Clowder Flatts was a Mazon Creek fossil locality just west of Morris, IL. It was known for dark, black, heavy concretions and plenty of sulfur. Probably, the most common fossil found there was Mazonomya mazonensis otherwise known as clam-clam, which is how it got its nickname. Other fossils were found there... including ferns, shrimp, worms, insects, and stories that it is one of three localities where the Tully Monster was found. Unfortunately, no one can collect there now as it's been built up as a community of homes.
For Fossil Friday this week, we have a triple clam... clam-clam-clam?
