Bill & Helen Allaway in 1952
In the July/August 1952 edition of the ESCONI newsletter, there was a poem from the Bill Allaway, who was Chairman of ESCONI at the time. Actually, at that time, he was still Chairman from the founding of ESCONI in 1949. He writes about the relaxation and restorative properties of rock collecting.... "I'll leave my troubles behind". Some of it's the time in nature and some of it's losing yourself in a hobby you enjoy. What do you think? Does collecting rocks, fossils, or your favorite help to relieve your stress?
Give me a pick and give me a bag
And give me a summer day.
Then give me a trail where rocks abound
Profusely by the way,
Give me the time and give me the health
And give me a peaceful mind.
Then as I wander along the trail
I'll leave my troubles behind.-- W.H. Allaway
