Surprise, surprise... we have another Mazon Creek fossil for Fossil Friday this week! This one is a little obscure as many times we pass by wood and bark as unexciting. However, this specimen from Valerie Anderson, ESCONI Recording Secretary, is definitely special. The first thing you notice on this rock is the oval shapes in the top piece. That is a rarely preserved Caulopteris sp. branch frond scar from a tree fern. If that wasn't enough, in the lower part, there is a Lepidostrobus sp. cone of some kind. Thanks Valerie for the awesome contribution!
