25 Years Ago - January 1997
- The speaker at the General Meeting was ESCONI member Warren Valsa, who did a presentation on the micro fauna fossils of Central Montana.
- The Paleontology Study Group was discussing Ordovician fossils.
- The Mineralogy Study Group was discussing copper again... the White Pines Copper Mine in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
- Archaeology was learning about the Terra Cotta warriors of China.
- Karl Everett became President of ESCONI.
- The American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AMFS) was celebrating its 50th anniversary.
50 Years Ago - January 1972
- The speaker for the General Meeting was Dr. Edward J. Olsen, Curator of Mineralogy, Geology Division for the Field Museum. He presented on meteorites.
- The Paleontology Study Group discussed the latest development in Pit 11. Jim Konecny led the discussion.
- The Mineralogy Study Group looked at "Copper Minerals".
- On January 8th, the Lizzadro Museum had a lecture/slide show called "Dinosaurs".
- On January 15th, there was a field trip to the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago.
- Jean Reynolds became president of ESCONI.
70 Years Ago - January 1952
- The General Meeting had Professor L. L. Sloss of Northwestern University. The topic was "Practical Uses For Paleontologists".
- December 1st, 1951 was the first meeting of the Archaeology Study Group
- An announcement in the newsletter said that ESCONI members could get a subscription discount on "Lapidary Journal", "Mineral Notes and News", and "Desert Magazine".
- The newsletter had a short article about the new method of measuring the age of archaeological and geologic specimens... C14 dating.
