Carboniferous seed fern fossils are on the menu for today's Fossil Friday. These Neuropteris specimens are from the Breathitt Formation in Kentucky, which dates to about 300 million years ago, not too much younger than the fossils found in Energy shale near Danville (305 million years ago) and the Francis Creek shale from north central Illinois (307 million years ago).
