Well, we've made it to another Fossil Friday... after a long week, sometimes it feels like we all need a whole lot more Fossils and Fridays in our lives! For this edition, we have a very colorful specimen of the seed fern Mariopteris sphenopteroides from Marie Angkuw. Marie is an avid Mazon Creek collector. When she's not out finding gorgeous fossil ferns, she volunteers in the Field Museum Bird Lab. She has been an ESCONI member for over ten years. She has sent us a few contributions for Fossil Friday. Have a look at her thoughtful post about pyritized Lyme Regis ammonites in Fossil Friday #93.
Mariopteris sphenopteroides is relatively rare. It's ornate pinnules really stand out! Thanks for sharing this very beautiful specimen, Marie!
