Field Trip to the Field Musum in April 1972.
25 Years Ago - April 1997
- The topic for the General Meeting was "Archaeology in Chicago". The speaker was Les Marszalek, who was a member of the Chicago Archaeology Society.
- There was a field trip to St. Paul, IN to collect Silurian fossils.
- Paleontologist Robert Bakker was the speaker at a special evening at Harper College in Palatine, IL.
- Opals were the subject of one of the articles in the newsletter.
- The Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Show report lauded the success of the show.
50 Years Ago - April 1972
- The ESCONI Juniors were recognized by the annual Junior Festival. At that time, there were five junior meetings each month!
- A field trip to the Field Museum was held on April 1st.
- There was a tribute to Jay Farr, a founding member and the second president of ESCONI, who passed away on March 5th, 1972.
- The micro-mount of the month was Tourmaline.
- The Paleontology Study Group was discussing the Paleontology of England.
- The subject of the Mineralogy Study Group was "Identification of Minerals By Chemical Tests".
70 Years Ago - April 1952
- Chairman Bill Allaway wrote an article called "What is Earth Science?" for the newsletter.
- The General Meeting was a Kodachrome slide talk by Dr. William Powers of Northwestern University on the Eskimos of Greenland.
- Someone left a black and grey silk scarf at the General Meeting... let us know if it's yours.
- From the Farm Journal April 1952 - 800 year old corn was found by researchers from the University of Illinois while excavating the ancient Hopewell Indian village on the Harry Ansell farm.
