This is Throwback Thursday #117. In these, we look back into the past at ESCONI specifically and Earth Science in general. If you have any contributions, (science, pictures, stories, etc ...), please sent them to [email protected]. Thanks!

For this week throwback, we have a poem called "Trilobite Troubles" from the November 1963 edition of the newsletter. This poem was written by Bob Bennett of the Elgin Rocks & Minerals Society, which is now known as the Elgin Rock Club,
TRILOBITE TROUBLES
In the Paleozoic Era of prehistoric time
Lived a three-lobed little creature,
Burrowing in ocean bottom slimo.
He lived, and died, and fossilized,
His race now is no more.
He lies encased in hard old rock,
Which was once the ocean floor. My search for him covers many miles,
Cost in time and money alone,
Of Band-Aids, gas, and worn-out shoes,
Is enough to make one groan!
Ten million tons of rock I've climbed,
Of the following limestone;I've combed through cliffs of Cambrian,
And over Ordivician, too.
And sleuthfully searched for him in vain,
In what was Silurian goo.
I've dug and delved in Devonian,
And Mississippian rocks were a mess.
Those piles of Pennsylvanian proved,
No better than the rest.
Over pyramids of Permian,
I've poked and pried 'til pooped,
Now prematurely aged, I'm worn-out, grey, and stooped! It's true I have some pieces,
Middles, ends, a staring eye,
Please smile on me, O Lady Luck,
One WHOLE ONE before I die!!!-- Bob Bennett Elgin Rocks & Minerals Society --
