Joining us from the National Museum of Scotland will be Dr. Elsa Panciroli presenting “Beasts Before Us; the Untold Story of Mammal Origins and Evolutions”.
Dr Elsa Panciroli is a paleontologist who studies the evolutionary ecology of extinct animals based at the University of Oxford and Associate Researcher at the National Museums of Scotland. In 2021, she authored the book, "Beasts Before Us: The Untold Story of Mammal Origins and Evolution". In 2022, she released her second book, "The Earth, A Biography of Life: The Story of Life on our Plant Through 47 Incredible Organisms". She has authored numerous publications including a historical account of the roles of women as scientists, collectors, and illustrators in the Palaeontographical Society.
Elsa Panciroli is a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow at the museum, supported by the John Fell Fund. Prior to this, she was a researcher at the University of Oxford Earth Sciences department. She is also an Affiliate Researcher at National Museums Scotland where she completed her PhD from the National Museums Scotland and the University of Edinburgh focusing on Scottish Jurassic mammal fossils from the Kilmaluag Formation on Skye. Elsa is a keen science speaker and communicator. She has contributed to the Guardian and Biological Science Review, as well as radio and podcast programs such as Crowdscience, the John Beatty Show and Our Lives.
