25 Years Ago - June 1998
- Peter Laraba of the Field Museum was the speaker at the June 1998 General Meeting. His topic was "Colossal Fossil", which was about SUE. There was a book called "A dinosaur named Sue: the story of the colossal fossil"
- Micro/Mineralogy was discussing minerals from Ohio and Michigan.
- New member Bill Vinikour introduced himself and his "Primeval Creations" shop in Downers Grove. Bill served as corresponding secretary for ESCONI for many years.
- Dino News reported on the recent publication of the "Richardson's Guide to the Fossil Fauna of Mazon Creek". There was a very flattering review in Science Magazine.
50 Years Ago - June 1973
- The June 1973 General Meeting as given by Dr. Lothar Hussman, Associate Professor of Oral Pathology at Loyola Medical Center. He is credited with the discovery of the Piezoelectric effect in bone. "Ferroelectric Switching Effect in Biologicals".
- Minerology was discussing favorite spots to collect minerals for the upcoming summer months.
- Micro-mounting had a photography session for a slide program to be donated to the Midwest Federation.
- Lorraine and Jim Pickering had an exhibit of Florida Fossils in the Downers Grove Library.
- Paleonology was discussing Bryozoans. Bruce Lauer put together the presentation.
- The Fossil of the Month was Pit 11 animals in general. Jim Konecny wrote how all of the fossils from a location create a picture of the site's ecology.
- Pyromorphite was the Micromount of the Month. Pyromorphite are green lead ore crystals.
70 Years Ago - June 1953
- St. Louis was the site of the 13th Anual Convention of the Midwest Federation of Minerological and Geological Societies. It was held on June 26th and 27th, 1953.
- The June General Meeting was a movie night. "The Airborne Magnotometer" and "Through These Doors" were shown. Both are documentaries. Airborne was released by the Department of Interior. It's about mapping of magnetic anomalies using an airplane. "Through These Doors" was by the Chicago Natural History Museum (Field Museum). It was about the correlation of field work and museum displays.
- The junior groups were planning a field trip to the Braidwood area strip mines on June 13th.
- June 21st saw a field trip to the Coker Mine near Mifflin, Wisconsin. Lead and zinc minerals were the target.
