Jeremy Zimmerman sent us some photos of an absolutely breathtaking Mazon Creek eurypterid. Adelophthalmus mazonensis (Mazon Monday #16) is the only known Mazon Creek species of eurypterid. It was described by Fielding Bradford Meek and Amos Henry Worthen in 1868 from fossils found in the Mazon River. A. mazonensis is considered a Holy Grail Mazon Creek fossil by many.
Thanks for sharing spectacular specimen, Jeremy! It has the tail, which is rarely preserved.
