This is Throwback Thursday #187. In these, we look back into the past at ESCONI specifically and Earth Science in general. If you have any contributions, (science, pictures, stories, etc ...), please sent them to [email protected]. Thanks!

John Good gave us some great ESCONI photos back at the 2023 ESCONI Gem, Mineral, and Fossil Show. These photos are a glimpse into a field trip to Chowder Flats in March 1994. The Chowder Flats locality was west of Morris, IL just north of US Route 6. Unfortunately, it's a housing development now. Mazon Monday #84 discussed a document "A Guide to the Coal Fossils of Chowder Flats, Morris, Illinois", which detailed the locality and what could be found there. It is one of three Mazon Creek fossil localities that yielded the Illinois State Fossil Tullymonstrum gregarium.
Dave Bergmann was Field Trip Chairman back in 1994. You'll see him and his wife Sheila in large yellow boots (Dave is the one in the cowboy hat). Also present are a young John Good (who took the photos) and Bruce Nordstrom. Maybe you'll recognize more people in the photos. If you do, please send them along!
