Does anyone know a Tim Mistele (Histele?) who would have been 9 in November 1973? We have a nice little story of him finding his first fossil at the World Famous Pit 11 Mazon Creek locality. He participated in a field trip in April 1971. Unfortunately, he didn't mention what it was?!? Can't seem to find a Pit 11 trip in April 1971, but there was one on May 15th, 1971. Maybe this is it?
Where and when did you find your very first fossil? Tell us at [email protected]. Thanks!
MY VERY FIRST FOSSIL-submitted
by Tim Mistele - Age 9
Downers Grove Junior GroupThis is a story of my very first fossil. My very first fossil was a clan found at PIT-11, April, of '71. It was the first time that I have ever been rock hunting. And I did not know what a fossil rock looked like. So, I did not have much luck. The only fun I had was climbing up and dowm the dirt piles.
We stayed there about two hours, with no luck at all so we decided to start back. I really wanted to find at least one fossil that day. So I opened all the cracked rocks I could find, But nothing ever did come up, until I kicked the last one. It was, of course, a fossil except I lost one half of it. Then, after showing my dad the one-half, I searched the whole area for the other one. But my brother found the other half. He said that half of the fossil was his. He and I argued about it. Finally my father ended the quarrel, thank heavens, and gave me both halves.
That is how I got my first fossil.
