25 Years Ago - September 1999
- The General Meeting feated an anthropology presentation by Dr. Rebecca Rogers Ackermann. Dr. Ackermann is the daughter of Floyd Rogers, who served a on the ESCONI board in the 1980s and 1990s.
- The Paleontology Study Group's meeting was called the "World's Greatest Show and Tell". I'm members brought in some very nice specimens.
- "Baskets of the Southwest" was the topic of the Archaeology Study Group meeting.
- The club was planning the 2024 ESCONI Flea Market/Auction, which was scheduled for October 2nd.
- "Dino News" was full of news of SUE, Archaeopteryx, and feathered dinosaurs.
50 Years Ago - September 1974
- Planning for ESCONI's Silver Anniversary (25) was well underway. A request went out for slides, snapshots, and other memorabilia.
- Most of the study groups were holding a "Brag Night" or "Show and Tell", which has been a very popular September meeting topic.
- Dick and John Ade discussed the flooding of portions of Pit 11 at the board meeting.
- Fred Labahn submitted a report on the Midwest Federation Conference, which was held in Lincoln, Nebraska in June 1974.
70 Years Ago - September 1954
- The evening school program was getting started for 1954. Course topics were Paleontology and Jewelry. (see Throwback Thursday #144)
- Downers Grove held its Fall Festival and ESCONI was there to display fossils and minerals.
- A field trip to Terre Haute, Indiana was held on September 19th. They were hunting for Pennsylvanian plants and animals similar to Mazon Creek. They also visited Indiana oil wells in the area.
- ESCONI was celebrating its Wood (5) anniversary.
- Dr. Frank Fleener wrote a mineral identity article for the newsletter. This one was entitled "Luster".
