AMNH Sylvania, Ohio - Trilobites in the Heartland
25 Years Ago - May 2000
- The General Meeting presentation "Computer Modeling of Sauropod Neck Movement" by Dr. Michael Parrish.
- The Mineralogy Study Group was discussing Laurium a classic locality for rare minerals in Greece. The site dates back many centuries.
- Sylvania, Ohio fossils was the topic of the Paleontology Meeting... history and geology of the area.
- There were field trips to the Central Limestone Quarry in Morris, IL and the Illinois Cement Co Quarry in LaSalle/Peru.
- The theme of the 2000 CGMA show was held from Saturday thru Monday at the DuPage Fairgrounds.
- Karen's Komments had a piece about the "Neaderthal Contoversy". It's now firmly established we interbred with them.
50 Years Ago - May 1975
- Bruce Lauer did the General Meeting presentation. His title was "The Mines and Collecting Areas of Mexico".
- John Ade did another in his series "Minerals and Man". This one was about Aluminum.
- Micromounting was learning about Crystals, including instant crystals anyone can grow!
- There was a field trip to collect Mazon Creek fossils in Braidwood at Pit 11... the directions included taking Route 66 to IL 129.
- The Memorial Day Field Trip was held over all three days. They visited Tunnel Mill, Madison, IN, and the Louisville Cement Factory in Speed, Indiana, a legendary place!.
70 Years Ago - May 1955
- The Regular Meering featured Mr. Roger Grange lecturing on "Archaeology of the Great Plains".
- There was a field trip to the Pugh Quarry near McClure, OH. In the days before the Interstate highways, the travel took a few days, with stops in small towns like Napoleon, IN.
- A field trip to collect Mazon Creek fossils was scheduled along with a stop at the McLuckie's to see they breathtaking collection. Wouldn't you like to join this one!
- The Downers Grove Junior Group was discussing "The State of Illinois - Its history and its natural resources".
- The Fourth Meeting of the Earth Science Class was under the direction of Dr, Ben Hur Wilson. He was discussing Chemistry.
